The walk had been interesting, despite Camille's silence for half of it. Thomas prattled on about his life and family and she listened to him, but never said a word. When he stopped talking, there was silence for a while. Then, he began to question her; "Is such-and-such true? Do you like to do such-and-such? Can you do such-and-such?" and she responded, but her voice was low and sharp. Finally, he asked her, "Why do you hold such animosity for me?" She said, "You are like the others; they gossip and whine and they don't even try to hide it in my presence!"
"So, for the simple fact that other people have gossiped and I have heard, but never gossiped myself, I am the evil one?"
"I doubt that you do not gossip."
"Come now, don't be so fickle!" he said, and he stopped walking.
"And you will gossip about our walk!"
